Modi says first set of IPL papers delivered to Board

New Delhi, May 8 (IANS) Lalit Modi, the suspended chairman and commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), says the first set of documents related to the Twenty20 extravaganza the cricket board sought from him have been handed over.Modi said Saturday that the original documents plus a set of notarised copies were given to the board's chief administrator Ratnakar Shetty. The remaining papers and files would be sent across soon.Modi told IANS that it was not true that any papers concerning the IPL were missing as alleged, and added that he would hand over everything he has in his possession. Now Modi might fish out the 'missing' documents to prove his innocence. 'I have nothing to hide, and I steadfastly maintain the truth will prevail.'Finding the IPL documents not being at its or the IPL office, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ordered that none of its office-bearers should carry home any official documents.Modi dithered over handing over the papers to the board when all manner of allegations were flying around. But on Thursday he wrote to interim IPL chairman Chirayu Amin that despite his reservations he would be handing over all IPL files, documents and those the board secretary want from him.But he had a rider: All the material must be received by an authorised board official who should authenticate every scrap of paper handed over and also initial the notarised copies so that there is a proper record.Modi has apparently prepared a massive list of the remaining documents he is going to submit and that 'list' too has been notarised.'All these documents will be handed over to Ratnakar Shetty at the Cricket Centre, the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai,' said Modi.Shetty could not be reached despite repeated attempts.Modi, while questioning the nature of the chargesheet served against him, wanted the IPL Governing Council to provide him the supporting documents on the basis of which the charges were framed. The Council has given Modi 15 days time to prepare his reply to the chargesheet slapped on him April 26.Modi broadly faces five charges. They pertain to the bidding for the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings XI, the broadcasting rights, bid-rigging of two new franchisees to IPL, the internet rights and Modi's behavioural attitude.
