New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) The national capital Monday experienced the hottest May day in eight years with the maximum temperature touching 45.4 degrees Celsius, an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.In 2002, the hottest day in in the Capital in May recorded a maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius, the official said.'The maximum recorded temperature of the national capital stood at 45.4 degrees Celsius which was four degrees above normal for this time of the year,' the IMD official said.The roads in the national capital wore a deserted look with people preferring to stay indoors or under shade.For the labourers working on the roadside beautification projects or construction sites for the Commonwealth Games, however, there was no respite. Men or women, they were toiling at the high noon.'There will be no respite from the heat Tuesday. The heat wave conditions will prevail for the next few days. The level of humidity will be high,' the IMD told IANS.The capital Monday recorded a minimum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above the average for this time of the season.According to the IMD, the national capital can expect the maximum temperature to hover around 44 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 30 degrees Celsius Tuesday.'The capital can expect partly clouded sky and possibility of dust and thunderstorm in some area in the later part of Tuesday,' IMD official added.
