Montek to be key speaker at Bahrain Global Forum

With Greece's debt problems indicating that the global financial crisis is far from over, finance ministers, treasury officials, key political figures, leading economists, finance and business figures from across the globe will gather at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS)' s Bahrain Global Forum, to discuss the changing balance of global economic power and the international impact of this shift as the world looks to return to growth.The keynote address at the three-day conference will be delivered by Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, followed by Jordanian Prime Minister Samir Rifai's address on 'Attracting Investment After the Financial Crisis'.The conference from May 14 in Manama, Bahrain, will provide a platform for these emerging market views to engage with the ideas of already established economic powers."The global financial crisis has accelerated the shift in economic influence from the West to East," said Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB),"One outcome of this shift will be a greater role for developing countries in the management of the world economic system; no longer will they be just beneficiaries of economic growth. The IISS Bahrain Global Forum provides an ideal platform for business leaders and policymakers from across the world to discuss the global economic shift and how this can be managed for the benefit of all," he said in an official release.
