Mumbaikars bear brunt as local train strike continues

Mumbai,April 04 (ANI): Empty train stations,commuters spilling onto roads, huge traffic jams the strike by motormen in Mumbai has brought the city to a standstill.The country's economic capital is almost paralyzed as the strike enters its second day on Tuesday.Buses were seen packed with passengers and commuters stood in long queues to get the buses for their destinations. The demands of motormen include an increase in basic pay scales of assistant drivers from rupees 1,900 to rupees 2,800, a hike in the basic pay scales of all senior categories,an increase in the per kilometer mileage rate from rupees 169 to rupees 287 and clearance of arrears for the same since January 1, 2006 etc.
