Obama seeks to contain economic damage of spill

President Barack Obama said on Tuesday the U.S. government was committed to containing the economic damage from the Gulf oil spill."We are committed to preventing as much of the economic damage as possible by working to contain the impact of this potentially devastating spill," Obama said.BP Plc is struggling to stop oil gushing from a ruptured undersea well in the Gulf of Mexico. The catastrophic oil leak, spewing from the ocean floor at a rate estimated at more than 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons/795,000 litres) a day, threatens shipping, wildlife, beaches and one of the most fertile U.S. fishing grounds.(Reporting by Tabassum Zakaria; Editing by Doina Chiacu )
