Ahead of the upcoming cricket season, Punjab State Senior Selection Committee has announced names of the 60 players who will undergo first fitness camp starting from June 11 to 24 at the PCA stadium in Mohali. The committee headed by the Chaman Lal Malhotra held a meeting in this regard on Sunday which also included, PCA secretary M.P. Pandove, Arun Sharma, Harvinder Singh, Harjinder Singh, Balbir Singh, Punjab Ranji coach Bhupinder Singh Senior, Sunil Saggi and Munish Bali.It was on the suggeston of Bhupinder Singh Senior that rest be given to the players after the Katoch Shield so that they are able to recoup and attend the pre-season training camp with vigour. So, the first camp which was slated to take place from May 20 will now start from June 10. Out of the 60 short listed players, 32 are from the Ranji Trophy panel, 24 from Under-22 and four from Under-19. Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab's Physiotherapist Patrick Farahat and trainer Andrain Dius alongwith trainers and coaches from various districts will form the faculty for the camp. Former Indian medium-pacer Harvinder Singh and Sandeep Sawal from Amritsar and Devinder Arora from Jalandhar will also be involved in the camp.During the meeting, Pandove showed his concern and anguish at the lack of physical fitness and mental toughness of the players of the state team. He made it clear to the selectors that under no circumstances unfit and jaded players would be part of the PCA squad. The teams have been divided into two pools. Pool-A includes Chandigarh, Mohali, Ludhiana and Kapurthala teams while Pool B has Patiala, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Mansa teams. The tournament will be played on league-cum-knock out basis. The PCA has allocated one selector for each venue to keep track of the performances of the players in the respective encounters. During the final from June 2 to 5, all selectors will be in attendance.
