Rallis inks pact with Syngenta

Mumbai, June 16 (PTI) The Tata Group''s agrochemical arm Rallis India today said it has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Switzerland-based agri-business leader Syngenta. The two companies have agreed to cooperate in the agro-chemical market in the domestic market as also elsewhere with a view to enhance availability of innovative agrochemical products and technologies to farmers, Rallis India said in a statement here today. As a part of the cooperation, Rallis shall source the fungicide Azoxystrobin from Syngenta and market it in the country. The active ingredient Azoxystrobin, developed by Syngenta, is the world''s best selling fungicide and belongs to the Strobilurin Chemicals Group. It is effective in dealing with diseases in crops like rice, vegetables and fruits. This agreement will make Azoxystrobin based crop protection solutions more widely available and expand product choice for farmers. Rallis will also have exclusive rights to specified combination products with Azoxystrobin. Rallis currently supplies Hexaconazole, a fungicide, to Syngenta for distribution in the global markets, and will continue to do so under the expanded partnership. "Rallis has a leading position on fungicides for domestic farmers and I am happy that this co-operation agreement will enable us to offer farmers a wider choice of new technology safer solutions," Rallis India managing director & chief executive V Shankar said in the statement. "We will also be able to offer our products to a larger base of farmers in other geographies," Shankar added. "The arrangement with Syngenta will enable development and co-development of new agrochemical products to deliver new and innovative solutions to our farmers now and potentially in other countries as well," he said.
