Mumbai, May 17 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Monday pared some of its intra-day losses to shut shop 165 points in the red.The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,961.92 points, closed at 16,829.27 points (provisional), 165.33 points or 0.97 percent down from its previous close at 16,994.6 points.At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 5,056.8 points, down 0.72 percent from its previous close.Broader markets too saw some buying with the BSE midcap index closing 0.2 percent lower, up from its intra-day lows and the BSE smallcap index 0.65 percent down.Oil and gas, IT, auto and telecom scrips were the losers, while capital goods and healthcare firms saw some gains.
