Shahzad is son of Retd vice marshal of Pak Air Force

Faisal Shahzad, the Pakistani origin American arrested in connection with the botched car bombing in New York, is the son of a retired air vice marshal of the Pakistan Air Force.Shahzad is the son of Air Vice Marshal (retired) Baharul Haq, who also served in the civil aviation department, Geo News channel reported.Shahzad's parents live in the posh Hayatabad area in the northwestern city of Peshawar while his ancestral home is in the Pubbi area of Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa province, the channel reported.Relatives of Shahzad said he was married and had two children. They said he had gone to the US for studies some time ago.Shahzad last visited his ancestral home at Pubbi some six months ago to attend a wedding, his cousin Sarirul Haq said.Kifayat Ali, another cousin of Shahzad, said he was one of the two sons of retired air force officer Baharul Haq."I was definitely shocked on hearing this news (of Shahzad's arrest). All people who knew the family were shocked," said Ali.Shahzad's father was an upright air force officer and his son "never had links with political, religious or terrorist groups," Ali said."The whole family had no links to political parties. This is all a part of the conspiracy launched against Pashtuns in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks," he claimed.Factbox on Shahzad:* Shahzad was born in June 1979 in Pabbi, in the Kashmir region of northwest Pakistan. He recently visited Pakistan for about five months, returning to the United States in February, sources said.* Shahzad became a naturalized U.S. citizen last year, U.S. officials said.* Shahzad received militant training in northwest Pakistan near the garrison town of Kohat, an intelligence official in Pakistan said. The area around Kohat is a stronghold of Tariq Afridi, the main Taliban commander in the region.* Shahzad worked for about three years as a junior financial analyst in the Norwalk, Connecticut, office of the Affinion Group, a marketing and consulting business, the company said. He left the company in June 2009.* JPMorgan Chase's mortgage unit sued Shahzad in September last year to foreclose on his three bedroom home in Shelton, Connecticut, court documents and county records show.* Shahzad is married with two children, sources said, and his wife and children are believed to be living in Pakistan.
