Stampede at ND station not for the first time

News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

New Delhi, May 16 (PTI) It is not for the first time that people have lost lives in a stampede at New Delhi Railway station and the previous incident in 2004 too happened due to passengers pushing and jostling to catch Bihar-bound trains. Two persons were killed and eight injured this afternoon in a stampede triggered by a last minute change in platforms for two trains at the Station, facing summer rush. Six years ago on November 13, a similar stampede claimed the lives of five women, including a teenaged girl, when they jostled to get into Patna-bound Jan Sadharan Express to reach their native place. In 2004, Diwali, Eid-Ul-Fitr and Chhat come together within a span of one week time and there has been unusual surge of passengers for East-bound trains, especially for Bihar, from the capital. A last minute change in the platform, like what appeared to have happened this time, triggered a stampede with people falling over one another. Five persons were killed and ten others injured in that incident.
