Bijnore (Uttar Pradesh), May 8 (ANI): Orchard owners and mango growers in Bijnore are a worried lot after a gale swept the region and destroyed most of their crop this week.ey are upset because fallen mangoes don't fetch much in the market."There was a huge loss of mangoes due to heavy storms last night. Only about 30-35 percent of production is left. If we try to sell the fallen mangoes, we would not get enough money to cover even the transportation costs, " said Akeel Ahmed, a mango grower."Very strong winds have been blowing. Many trees have fallen off and are lying on the ground. It will take us a lot of time to clean that up too," Ahmed added.Mango growers earn between Rupees 70,000 to Rupees 75, 000 for a ton of mangoes that is exported to the US. They reportedly make an annual profit of Rupees 4.5 million. (ANI)
