Trinamool man gets life term for CPI(M) leader``s murder

Burdwan (WB), Jun 16 (PTI) A fast track court today sentenced a Trinamool Congress worker to life imprisonment for murdering a CPI(M) leader in the district. Judge Muktipada Mondal found Sadhan Mullick guilty of murdering CPI(M)''s Bhatar zonal committee member, Dasrathi Ghosh, on January 12, 2009, and awarded life term to him, besides slapping a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. The court acquitted two other accused in the case, Sukhen Chowdhury and Madhusudan Ghosh. According to the prosecution, Dasrathi Ghosh and two other CPI(M) workers were collecting subscription for the party on the day when Trinamool workers Sadhan, Sukhen and Madhusudan stopped them. Sadhan started quarrelling with them alleging that Dasrathi was behind the non-payment of his NREGA dues, which the CPI(M) leader denied. An altercation followed and Sadhan, brandished a knife and stabbed Dasrathi to death and fled. The two others also followed him. The three had been arrested later following an FIR filed by those accompanying Dasrathi.
