Mumbai, May 10 -- The MHB Colony police arrested two bookies from Borivli for accepting bets during Saturday's New Zealand versus Pakistan match in the ongoing T20 World Cup. The two accused, Jagmohan Lalchand Bagari (53) and Anil Vyas (42), were arrested from a flat in the IC Colony area of Borivli (West). "They were booked under the Gambling Act and produced before a Holiday Court at Borivli on Sunday which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days," said Sanjay Bannerjee, deputy commissioner of police, Zone XI. Acting on a tip off, the police raided a first floor flat where the duo was quickly rounded up. Seven landline phones, four cell phones, a laptop, television set and transmission box were seized during the operation, said Bannerjee. "It appears that he was operating for the past three months," Bannerjee said. Investigations revealed that Bagari was pretending to use the flat as an office of a share broking firm. The bookies at times, accept bets online, while on other occasions, take it down manually on notebooks, said the police. The police are now going through the laptop and the notebooks to get an estimate of how many bets were placed and those involved in placing bets.
