UP govt to provide grants to varsities

Lucknow, May 15 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh government today decided to provide grants to universities on the recommendations of a committee headed by Prof. Harsh Kumar Sehgal, Vice-chancellor of Chhatrapati Sahuji Mahraj University, for improving higher education in the state. A meeting presided over by the cabinet secretary on the recommendations of the committee decided to increase the annual grant to meet the additional expenditure of Rs 101.08 crore incurred following the implementation of 6th Pay Commission in the universities, an official release said. It was also decided to provide one time block grant of Rs 200.11 crore, it added. A decision was also taken to arrange Rs 35.79 crore for agriculture universities from the funds of Mandi Parishad as block grant and Rs 164.32 crore as block grant from the state exchequer to higher education department, medical education, technical education and veterinary department, the release added.
