News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Lucknow, June 18 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh government today decided to impose five per cent entry tax on import of natural gas for industrial units. The state cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Mayawati gave its nod to five per cent entry tax on natural gas used in industrial units, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister D.S Misra said. Misra, however, said this provision would not be applicable to CNG or piped gas supply for domestic use. He said this tax is not new as it had been abolished in February this year with an additional tax to be calculated with the 21 per cent VAT . He said government decided to reimpose the entry tax finding that many of the industrial units were purchasing it from outside the state and were not covered under VAT, thus causing a loss to the state exchequer.
