Chandigarh, May 18 (PTI) Pharma company Venus Remedies today said it would launch once-in-a-day injectable painkiller, Aceclofenac OD, in the country by the end of 2010. The company, which claimed that the drug is the world''s first once-in-a-day injectable painkiller, aims a 10 per cent market share in the segment with this product. Aceclofenac is a NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) used for the relief of acute as well as chronic pain and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, low back pain, ankylosing spondylitis, dental pain, post traumatic pain, gynecological pain and oncology pain. "This formulation based on Novel drug delivery system technology starts its action instantly and gives immediate relief from acute pain. "The drug will be effective for the next 24 hours as against the conventional daily dose of three injections of diclofenac given every 8 hours. It not only reduces the number of pricks but also drastically reduces the side effects associated with the use of NSAIDs," Venus Remedies Director, Medicine Research Centre, claimed in a statement issued here. The company has already got patent for this product from the Patent office, he said. "We have very high aspirations from this product and hope to capture 10 per cent market share in the early years of launch. Venus is already in talks with top global pharmaceutical companies for out licensing of this product," Chaudhary said. The most prevalent forms of neuropathic pain in the country includes neuralgia/fibromyalgia and lower back pain, with 16.3 million and 15.9 million cases, respectively, reported during 2008. Analgesics (narcotics and nonnarcotics) account for 43 per cent of the global pain management market, having generated revenues of USD 19.9 billion in 2007, showing an annual growth of 15.2 per cent.
