We`ve alternative sites for Dadri-like plant: RPower CEO

Despite the Supreme Court ruling that Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group-promoted Reliance Natural Resources Lmtd (RNRL) was not entitled to gas at $2.34 per mmBtu from Reliance Industries' D6 block in the KG basin, Reliance Power CEO J Chalsani said the company's prized Dadri mega power project of 7,500 mega watts could be easily replicated at another location where gas supply is available.Referring to the country's limited gas supply, Chalsani told The Indian Express that the availability of gas will cease to be an issue as additional sources are explored, even within the Krishna-Godvair (KG) Basin, thus keeping the company's 10,000 mw targeted power capacity from gas-based thermal plants a viable aspiration.Reliance Power has three or four alternative sites for developing a project similar to Dadri, Chalsani said. "Once land acquisition and gas supply occurs, we can start construction within 24 to 36 months," he added. "The worst case scenario is that it takes more time, but we have options for setting up in other places." The targeted capacity for Dadri has been scaled up from 3,500 mw to 5,500 mw and then to 7,500 mw.
