London, May 17 (IANS) Hollywood filmmaker Woody Allen has spoken out in defence of director Roman Polanski insisting the embattled moviemaker has already 'suffered' and 'paid his due' in relation to his ongoing child sex case.Polanski is currently under house arrest in Switzerland fighting extradition to America following his arrest in Zurich in September last year. US lawmakers want the star returned so he can be handed his punishment for having unlawful sex with a minor in 1977. He fled the country on the eve of his sentencing.Contactmusic.com reports, a group of moviemakers backed Polanski by signing a petition at the Cannes International Film Festival in France this week urging Swiss officials to reject pressure from America to extradite him.And Allen is adamant the director is deserving of the support because he has already paid a high price for his crime.'It's something that happened many years ago... He's an artist, he's a nice person, he did something wrong and he paid for it. They (his critics) are not happy unless he pays (for) the rest of his life. They would be happy if they could execute him in a firing squad. Enough is enough,' said the 74-year-old actor-director.
