Court orders arrest of cop who beat innocent villager

Midnapore (WB), May 15 (PTI) A local court here today ordered the arrest of a police officer for allegedly beating up an innocent villager suspecting him to be a Maoist in Midnapore district. The Chief Judicial Magistrate''s Court ordered that Dinabandhu Behra, assistant sub-inspector of Goaltore police station, be arrested and produced before the court by the 31st of this month. Behra and his colleage Manabendra Pal were accused of beating up Anuk Mandal, a resident of Goaltore area, two months ago after they had wrongly suspected him to be a Maoist.
