New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) A Delhi court today ordered start of criminal proceedings against college teacher S A R Geelani, who was acquitted in 2002 Parliament attack case, on the charge of giving false evidence in a judicial proceedings. Additional Sessions Judge Nivedita Anil Sharma ordered start of the proceedings for perjury against Geelani for giving wrong address while standing surety for an accused. Sharma took a serious view of Geelani''s giving wrong address in the affidavit filed before it saying he wasted time of the court as well as of the police. Geelani had mentioned his address as Moti Masjid at Zakir Nagar in the bail bond of accused Mirza Iftikhar Hussian who was recently acquitted in 1996 Lajpat Nagar blast case. Hussian, who was also facing trial in another case relating to an attack on an undertrial during his stay at Tihar Jail on April 15, 2008, registered with Hari Nagar police station, had applied for bail which was granted by the court on April 19. Geelani, a professor of Delhi University''s Zakir Husain College, who stood surety for Hussain, mentioned the address which was found to be wrong. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja is likely to take up the case against Geelani tomorrow.
