Dutch woman approaches high court to know about her parents

News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Mumbai, Jun 16 (PTI) A resident of Netherlands of Indian origin, who was given in adoption to her Dutch parents in 1975, has approached the Bombay High Court seeking to know who were her biological parents in India. Daksha Van Dijck was given to her adoptive father Johan Van Dijck sometime in 1975 by Mumbai-based Shraddhanand Mahil Ashram, an authorised adoption agency. But in 2007, Daksha came to India, seeking to ascertain her roots. Her case is that as per the Supreme Court''s ruling in an earlier case, an adopted child has the right to get this information after attaining majority. The Ashram authorities, however, did not cooperate with her and Matunga Police station in the city too did not conduct any probe when she filed a complaint against the Ashram, her petition says. The petition alleges the Ashram authorities are hiding the facts about her birth because she was possibly kidnapped and given in adoption. The High Court has sought a reply from the state government in two weeks on the petition.
