Food park to be set up in Amravati

Amravati, May 10 (PTI) Maharashtra Government would set up an independent food park at Nandgaonpeth MIDC here to promote industries based on food processing. This was announced by Industries Minister and Guardian Minister of the district, Rajendra Darda here today. He also assured land and necessary facilities to such industries in the district. Darda made the announcement at the investors meet organised here by Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries and Confederation of Indian Industries. The meet was inaugurated by Subodhkant Sahai, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries. Darda said a new policy was in the pipeline to encourage agro-based industry in the state, especially Vidarbha. As many as 303 processing units, giving jobs to 1,800 people were operating in Amravati district, he said. Sahai announced a Rs 10-crore grant for creating cold storage facility here to preserve perishable food items. He said to promote agro-based industries in Amravati on a large scale, desirous entrepreneurs would be given Rs 50 lakh, or 25 per cent of the construction cost via banks. Sahai informed that three food parks had been sanctioned in Nagpur division and eight more were in the offing in the state.
