New Delhi, May 15 (PTI) The heat wave continued unabated in the north today with the mercury settling above the 40 degree celsius mark at many places and Churu in Rajasthan sizzling at 46.2 degrees. The Met office said daytime temperatures stayed mostly above 42 degrees in the desert state, where Sriganganagar and Jaisalmer and Bikaner recorded highs of 45.1 degrees and 44.6 degrees respectively. Barmer and Jaipur recorded maximum temperatures of 43.2 degrees, the Met office said. In Punjab and Haryana, Hisar was the hottest in the region with a daytime temperature of 45.1 degrees, five degrees above normal. The mercury in Bhiwani soared to 43.4 degrees, three notches above normal, while in Ambala the high was recorded at 41.4 degrees, three marks above normal. In Chandigarh, the mercury settled at 40.6 degrees. In Punjab, Patiala saw the mercury touch 42.6 degrees, five degrees above normal. In Ludhiana and Amritsar, the daytime temperatures were recorded at 41.8 degrees and 41.3 degrees. Residents of the national capital too experienced a hot day as the maximum temperature was recorded at 43.3 degrees. The low was recorded at 31.3 degrees. The humidity oscillated between 21 and 31 per cent. In Himachal Pradesh, Una was the hottest at 41.6 degrees while the Queen of the Hills had a high of 27.7 degrees. Nahan, Solan and Dharamsala recorded maximum temperatures of 35.7, 33.3 and 35.4 degrees respectively. PTI TEAM.
