Panchayat polls in Haryana next month

Chandigarh, May 15 (PTI) Panchayat elections will be held in Haryana in two phases next month. The date for the first phase of polling in the state is June 6 and the second phase will be held on June 12, State Election Commissioner Dharam Vir told reporters. The filing of nominations would take place on May 22 and May 24 to be followed by scrutiny on May 25, he said. The elections would be held in 13 districts including Ambala, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Faridabad, Jind, Jhajjar, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Mahendergarh at Narnaul, Sirsa, Sonepat, Mewat at Nuh and Palwal. The election to the Gram Panchayats of Tosham in Bhiwani, Jakhal Mandi in Fatehabad, Samalkha in Kurukshetra would not be conducted as they are yet to complete their tenure, he said. However, voters of these Gram Panchayats would exercise their franchise to elect Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad members, he said. A total of 63,98,342 voters of 13 districts would exercise their right to franchise to elect 244 members of Zila Parishads, 1792 members of Panchayat Samitis, 38596 Panches and 3971 Sarpanches, he said.
