Kullu, May 15(ANI): Illegal opium cultivation has taken an alarming turn in north India's hill state of Himachal Pradesh. Reportedly, the illegal cultivation of poppy and cannabis in this state has increased with each passing year, particularly in Kullu, Mandi and the regions bordering Shimla district. Such trends have posed a threat to the credibility of the state government and the police. Critics are of the view that the top brass in the police administration have failed to tackle this social hazard. However, state Chief Prem Kumar Dhumal mentioned that besides awareness campaigns, efforts have been initiated to curb this menace.
