Marks & Spencer PhD ScholarshipMarks & Spencer (M&S) is sponsoring this scholarship in the School of History at the University of Leeds to mark the new partnership between the two and specifically the relocation of the company archive to the university, which will take place in 2011.The successful candidate will use the rich resources of the M&S archive and the sets of cookery writings located in the special collections of the Brotherton Library to investigate the social history of food in its supply, distribution and consumption dimensions. The research will be located within the broad area of the social and cultural history of food and eating since the 19th century.The award will cover academic fees at the standard UK/EU rate and a maintenance grant together with other allowances, if appropriate. It will be made for one year in the first instance and renewable subject to the satisfactory progress of studies. Successful applicants must live within a reasonable distance from the University of Leeds while in receipt of the studentship.The application form can be downloaded from URL www.leeds.ac.uk/history/prospective/pg/Marks%20and%20Spencer%20Application%20Form.doc.
