Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists (UCPN-M) chief Prachanda on Saturday blamed the media and the 'intelligentsia' for having worked against the nationwide strike that his party called off on its sixth day following widespread defiance, protests and peace initiatives.Addressing a huge rally of party workers who had gathered and camped here for the past six days hoping to return only after installing a Prachanda-led government, the Maoist chief said his party would not forget the "dishonesty" of these two groups of people towards the strike. "We will settle scores with journalists and intellectuals for the dishonesty they showed towards our movement," he said amidst wild applause from the crowd. "We have in our mind what all you have written and done," he said referring to the media and the intellectuals.Saturday's rally was mainly called to explain to the cadres the reason behind the sudden withdrawal of the strike. "If our demands are not met, we will go for a peoples' revolt and the six-day strike will prove to be a rehearsal," Prachanda said. The Maoist chief said the strike had to be called off because of the suffering caused to the people. "The government tried to field one set of people against others, and we had to foil that."The strike that was aimed at securing the resignation of PM Madhav Nepal followed by a 'national unity government' led by Prachanda failed to achieve the goal as the government made it clear that it would not hand over the leadership to Prachanda.
