Mercury drops several notches in the national capital

New Delhi, May 28 (PTI) The mercury dropped several notches in the national capital today, but residents did not get much respite due to the high humidity levels which caused severe inconvenience to them. Today''s daytime temperature was recorded at 37.7 degree celsius against yesterday''s 44 degrees. The day''s maximum temperature was three degrees below normal for this time of the season. The humidity oscillated between 35 and 53 per cent. Today''s minimum temperature was recorded at 28.8 degrees, a degree above normal. The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy sky tomorrow and said temperature was likely to oscillate between 39 and 27 degrees. "There may be duststorm tomorrow as well," MeT officials said. Delhiites have been battling intense heat for the past few days and the maximum had touched 45.4 degrees last week, the season''s highest. The last time the temperature surpassed the 44-degree mark in the month of May was in 2006, when the seventh day of the month recorded 44.5 degrees. The highest in the decade was recorded on May 19, 2002 when it touched 46 degree celsius. The all-time record for the month was on May 29, 1944 when the mercury touched 47.2 degrees.
