Mirwaiz visits ailing Geelani at hospital

Srinagar, June 16 (PTI) Notwithtanding differences with the rival factions of the amalgam, Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today visited the ailing senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a hospital and enquired about his health. Mirwaiz visited S K Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura and prayed for speedy recovery of Geelani, who was admitted in the institute after being set free on the court orders from Srinagar central jail, following complaint of chest pain. Geelani had been arrested on June 13 following his call for a march to Saidakadal to express solidarity with the family members of Tufail Ahmad Mattoo killed in police action last week. Besides Mirwaiz, firebrand chairperson of Dukhtaran-e- Millat Syeda Aisya Andrabi and President of a religious organisation Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah, visited Geelani and prayed for his speedy recovery. Mirwaiz and other leaders also visited 25-year-old Rafiq Ahmad Bangroo to enquire about his health. Bangroo was admitted in the hospital as he received serious head injuries allegedly inflicted by CRPF personnel at Danamazr locality of the old city during a clash between stone pelters and the paramilitary forces three days ago. Earlier, Mirwaiz presided over a meeting of executive council of the amalgam at Rajbagh headquarters and expressed grief over the loss of life and random arrests being made by police in the city for the past few days.
