Bhubaneswar, Jun 16 (PTI) BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik today expressed confidence that all party candidates would win the Rajya Sabha elections tomorrow for three seats in Orissa. The BJD has fielded sitting Rajya Sabha member Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, former MLA Sashi Bhushan Behera and BJD general secretary Baishnab Charan Parida. The BJD which has 103 members in a House of 147, requires eight more first preference votes. It has issued a whip to its legislators. While NCP has announced support of its four MLAs for BJD''s third candidate, two independent MLAs have also made similar statements. CPI has also announced its support to BJD candidates. With the support of these parties, BJD requires only one vote to ensure the victory of its third candidate. For victory, a candidate needs 37 first preference votes. Congress, which has declared its support for independent Tara Ranjan Patnaik, has also issued a whip asking its members to vote for him. "A three line whip has been issued to all party legislators asking them to vote for Patnaik," Congress chief whip Prasad Harichandan said. Patnaik, who is already assured of 27 Congress votes and three from independent members, got a boost with BJP announcing support of its six MLAs as also an Independent MLA Pratap Sarangi. Meanwhile, complaints were lodged with the police by the Congress and BJP alleging that a legislator each of the two parties were abducted on the eve of the elections. State Congress Working President and Lok Sabha member Bhakta Charan Das alleged that party MLA from Lanjigarh Shibaji Majhi had been abducted in a bid to keep him away from the poll process for benefiting the ruling BJD. In a complaint with police here, Das demanded quick steps to trace Majhi. BJP leader Ashok Sahu also alleged that party MLA from Bonai, Bhimsen Choudhury had been kidnapped from his residence here. Fearing poaching by the opposition camp, BJD has lodged its MLAs at a posh hotel in Puri, about 60 km from here. PTI AAM SKN PC.
