Naga film all set to make mark in Cannes Film Festival

Kohima, May 5 (ANI): A short film from Nagaland, 'last of the tattooed head hunters' has been selected for a world premiere at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from 13 to 24 May in France.This is the first time that a film from northeast has been selected for Cannes.It's a proud moment for Vikeyeno Zao and her team as a short-film by them will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival.'Last of the Tattooed Headhunters', is a 15-minute film based on the head hunting practice of the Konyak Nagas.One of the fiercest among the Naga tribes, the Konyak Nagas continued the practice till the end of the twentieth century."For the last 10-15 years, I have been doing a research on these people and about the Konyak people," said Vikeyeno Zao, Director, Cannes Nominated FilmThe Konyak villages, which now fall on the international border with Myanmar, were located in an area surrounded by fierce hunters.Vikeyeno and her filmmaker husband Indrajit Dev, who has probably made the highest number of short film in the region, wants a platform where these short films can be showcased in northeast."There should be a place where people can come and view these films," said Vikeyeno Zao, director, Cannes nominated film."Giving a proper projection is required but we should not look at the prospect of commercializing it always. We should look at projecting that, which comprises of northeast. People know very less about the northeast," said Dhruvjyoti Sharma, scriptwriter of the film.The film was selected in the Short Film Corner Section Category of the festival.And, Vikeyeno and her team are now anxiously waiting for the film to be screened at one of the biggest Cinema Events in the world - the Cannes Film Festival.
