Officials in the Defence Ministry are keeping a keen watch on the appointment of a new Director General of Acquisition — one of the most powerful and controversial posts given that a majority of funds are channelled through it. With the incumbent Shashi Kant Sharma set to move out of the ministry soon, there are two senior IAS officers who are said to be in the running. Interestingly, both have served long terms in the ministry. One is Sundaram Krishna, the Special Advisor to Defence Minister A K Antony. He is considered to be very close to the minister and has been his adviser for the past three years. The other candidate is Bimal Julka, who is the Resident Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh at present.
