Rs 1,879-crore road projects in Punjab get Centre nod

The Centre has approved various road projects amounting to Rs 1,879 crore for Punjab.Union minister for road transport and highways Kamal Nath has also instructed chairman, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to visit Punjab next fortnight to discuss and remove impediments in the way of expeditious completion of road projects in the state on Tuesday.Deputy chief minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal had sought Nath's early clearance for various infrastructure projects. The projects that received approval in the meeting included four-laning of southern By Pass Ludhiana to be constructed at Rs 416 crore, NH-95 along Sidhwan Canal (Rs 200 crore), Ropar Bye Pass ( Rs 60 crore), Ropar Bye Pass Phase-II (Rs 95 crore) and four laning of Ropar-Nawanshehar-Phagwara Road ( 700 crore).The meeting also approved Batala-Mehta-Beas Road (34 km), Tanda-Sri Hargobind Pur-Amrtisar Road ( 77 km), Kotkapura-Mukatsar Road ( 30 km), Morinda-Kurali-Siswan-Baddi upto Haryana Border Road (33 km), Phillaur- Nakodar-Kapurthala Road ( 66 Km). These roads will cost Rs 400 crore.
