Mumbai, May 11 -- Shiv Sena corporators want the Brihanmumbai Munici-pal Corporation to get the Mahar-ashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to compensate for damaging the roof of the Shahaji Raje Krida Sankul, known as the Andheri Sports Complex, during a programme held on April 30. The complex is managed by the Sahaji Raje Trust, headed by Mayor Shraddha Jadhav. The MNS had hired the venue to celebrate the golden jubilee of the formation of Maharashtra state. Officials from the trust that manages the complex said the roof was badly damaged after firecrackers were burst on it. "They (MNS workers) have damaged the entire roof of the stadium. They should be made to pay for it," Sena Corporator, Raju Pednekar said in the BMC's general body meeting on Monday. "For 10 days, we have been asking ward officials to survey the extent of damage, but they haven't done it." He added it is in the clauses of the BMC that if a party damages premises rented to it for a function it should compensate. MNS legislator Nitin Sardesai said, "I don't think we have done any damage to the roof during the function. But we will decide if we should compensate only after the civic body submits the report to us." Shiv Sena Leader of the house, Sunil Prabhu, said, "An engineer will survey the stadium to access the damage. Once the extent of damage is clear the money should be deducted from their (MNS's) deposit." Prabhu said the mayor should pass orders to recover the damages. The newly renovated complex was reopened in March.Civic officials from the Andheri ward said the rent of the complex for a day is Rs 1 lakh with a deposit of Rs 1 lakh. "The party had booked the complex five days in advance and have paid the civic body Rs 10 lakh," said an official from K-West ward.
