New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) Government today assured the Supreme Court that fast track courts accross the country would continue to function uninterrupted as suitable steps are being taken for proper utilisation of funds and for filling up of vacancies. The apex court was informed by Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium that Secretary in the Justice Department has been appointed and the things would be brought on track by this week. "The new Secretary in Justice Department has taken over and suitable plans are in place. All contentious issues will be solved by this weekend," he told a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan. The court, during the last hearing, had asked the authorities to ensure that the money allocated for fast track courts for financial year 2010-11 did not get lapse. A sum of Rs 75 crores have been sanctioned for fast track courts. Durinng the last financial year, Rs 145 crores remained unspent. At present 1562 fast track courts are functioning in various states. The court had asked state governments and High Courts to see that vacant posts are filled at the earliest.
