New Delhi, May 9 -- A 25-year-old man working at a jewellery shop has been arrested on charges of making a threat call to the police control room (PCR) on Thursday night that the life of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was in danger for the next 72 hours, police said. Singh had earlier also made calls but the police did not take him seriously as he was mimicking the voice of an "old woman". The accused, identified as Bir Singh, reportedly made the call to frame another person-Lal Singh-from whom he had borrowed Rs 20,000 but was unable to repay. Police said Singh used a stolen MTNL Garuda phone (20473876) to make the threat call regarding the Chief Minister on Saturday. The police traced him on Saturday after the accused made a third call to the PCR and said that Dikshit's life was in danger. Singh had allegedly stolen the mobile phone from a Narela shop. The phone was sold to one Mahendra Kumar who returned it after some time. Delhi Police's Special Cell arrested the accused from his Farsh Bazaar residence. Police said they could not recover the mobile phone from him as he had dumped it somewhere. As the phone was registered in Kumar's name, police reached him and it was during his questioning that Singh's name cropped up. "The shopkeeper had sold the phone to one Mahendra Kumar who returned it after some days as he did not like the model. Singh stole the phone and made the threat call from that number. After the threat call, Singh called the person from he had borrowed the money. He did this so that when the police would take out the call records Lal Singh's number would show up and the police would pick him up for questioning. He thought this way, he won't be required to repay the money," said a senior police officer. He is married and has three children. He has been booked under various sections of the IT act, criminal intimidation and outraging a woman's modesty.
