ONGC crush ITC, enter last four

In the end it was the experience that saw ONGC home against ITC in the quarter-final of the All India Om Nath Sood memorial cricket tournament.Defending a decent total of 237, ONGC's bowling unit led by India discard Ishant Sharma and former Delhi Ranji captain Amit Bhandari, who claimed six wickets between them, edged out ITC, ltd comfortably by 57 runs to advance to the last four at the Roshanara grounds on Tuesday.Openers Gagan Khoda and Sandeep Sharma gave the side a good start by putting on 72 runs for the first wicket, after they were asked to bat first. Sharma continued his dogged resistance with another purposeful stand of 50 with Ajay Ratra for the third wicket. But despite these starts, ONGC's never looked like putting up a big total, but a late-order burst by Puneet Mehra (32) and Ishant Sharma, who hit three boundaries in his 9-ball 16, that they got past the 230 run mark. The duo scored 40 off the last four overs to take the team to a repectable total, while Sandeep was the top scorer with 63.For ITC, Parminder Singh (3/35) and Abid Khan (3/51) bowled well and put some breaks on the O.N.G.C. scoring rate. Chasing 238, ITC were shot out for a meagre 180. In fact they were never in the running after Ishant took two wickets up front in quick time.For ITC opener Nitin Saini (47), Bhuvnesh Kumar (45) and Pradeep Chawla (40) were the main run scorers.
